698931 2008-08-20 22:18:00 Does anyone know where you set the background for the screen that comes up at startup between the loading drivers screen and the Welcome screen? On most systems this screen is black with the pointer cursor on it but I have a machine that shows one of XP's std desktops. I have also seen a W2000 with this 'feature'.

I'm darned if I know where this gets set. It's no big problem but I would just like to know! It's also hard to devise a google search for this info.

698932 2008-08-20 22:28:00 You would probably need a 3rd party program to do this

If you mean something like this (www.youtube.com)

You need Reshack / Resource hacker

698933 2008-08-20 23:05:00 TweakUI does it.

Just set the picture you want for your wallpaper. Open TweakUI and go to Logon>Settings>Put a check next to Wallpaper>Hit Copy Now and reboot.

698934 2008-08-21 10:31:00 It's not the standard wallpaper . It's as described above . It is only up for a brief time till the login/Welcome screen appears .

It happens to be the 'Red moon desert . jpg' image . My desktop wallpaper is a different one . So I get the XP logo screen with the moving bars, then this red moon screen, then the Welcome screen .

The Red moon file appears twice in the registry so I renamed those entries . No change . It appears only once on the C: drive . I renamed it - no change . So, I have no idea where it comes from but never mind .

698935 2008-08-21 15:19:00 -Find the wallpaper you wanna change the Red Moon wallpaper with.
-Set it as your desktop wallpaper.
-Open TweakUI and go to Logon>Settings>Put a check next to Wallpaper>Hit Copy Now and reboot.
-Your old logon wallpaper (Red Moon) will change to whatever you changed your desktop wallpaper to.
-Then you can change your wallpaper again to whatever you want and it wont hurt the logon wallpaper. (Not unless you uninstall TweakUI.)

698936 2008-08-21 21:34:00 Thanks. Your post indirectly lead me to the solution. You gave me its name, logon wallpaper, which led me here www.updatexp.com

The logon wallpaper was named wallpaper1.bmp and it was, indeed, the red moon image. I modified the registry entry to '(None)' and bingo, success.

Thanks - I have learnt something.

698937 2008-08-22 02:19:00 TweakUI probably does the same thing, just a little easier...but as long as it worked... ImagiNationFreak (14098)
