698783 2008-08-19 23:41:00 Why does my DVD-Rom and CD-RW show up like this in My Computer?

img110.imageshack.us

The icon isn't correct for the CD-RW and they both say MMC/SD.

Also, can I change the icons for my removable devices?

I have Windows Home Edition.

698784 2008-08-19 23:44:00 Well you've been messing with icons etc, so that's probably what's caused it.

I don't think you can change or rename optical drives, you could try in disk management.

698785 2008-08-19 23:46:00 It was like that before I changed the icons though...

Plus I just reinstalled Windows XP a few days ago.

698786 2008-08-19 23:58:00 You've installed an icon pack or something?

It sounds a bit like Windows has somehow got it's drive names messed up. Maybe delete them from device manager and reboot, see if it re-installs them properly.

698787 2008-08-20 00:01:00 Try reassigning the icon through Folder Options...

Then reassign the MMC card to, say S and the other drive to F and all should be OK.

698788 2008-08-20 00:04:00 The combo drive I used to have in this computer messed up somehow. I took it out and replaced it with 2 single drives and it still looks like that. I just installed them not 40 minutes ago.

I used ICON Tweaker to change the icons...but they were like that before I did that.

698789 2008-08-20 00:24:00 You can change the Icons back to default, but you need to do a reg Hack,

WARNING: make sure you create a restore point first, OR export the reg files as a backup BEFORE you do this:

To change Drive icon:

1- Click Start > Click Run > type “regedit” to run Registry Editor

2- Find following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer

3-create a new Key and name “DriveIcons”

4- Under DriveIcons create a new Key with the drive letter ( for example C ), within drive letter create a new key and name “DefaultIcon”.

5- Give the default value , the icon you want to use, for example : c:\windows\system32/shell32.dll,74

To change Drive Label:
Do step one and two

Under DriveIcons create a new Key with the drive letter ( for example C ), within drive letter create a new key and name “DefaultLabel”.
Give the Default Value, the label you want. For example Windows.

Close Registry Editor and reboot your Computer

698790 2008-08-20 02:23:00 You don't have one of those DVD drives that has a flash card reader built in do you? Agent_24 (57)
698791 2008-08-20 17:17:00 I don't really wanna change anything in the registry, I would rather just keep it like it is, I don't wanna screw anything up...

My computer has the flash reader,sd card reader and all that stuff built in.

698792 2008-08-21 06:49:00 You can always backup your registry if you're afraid of changing it.

Google it.
