457457 2006-05-24 12:21:00 Does anyone have any comments on DSE warranties? Do they try to weasel out of honouring them?

Will they give you a warranty card, or will you have to produce your till reciept (that can be damaged very easily by the ink rubbing off if you keep all your warranties together in a folder)?

My parents are looking at buying a new printer (Cannon IP4200 probably) from a local retailer (so that it is the retailers responsibility to ship it from Invercargill to Wellington/Auckland if there is a fault) & DSE look like the cheapest of the retailers down here with websites. I'll have to go into Harvey Norman to check their price.

457458 2006-05-24 13:21:00 Have dealt with DSE for quite a numbers of years now and have always found them helpful and prepared to back their products.

DSE have many policies to ensure your parents will be happy with their printer.

* Consumer Guarantees Act
* Manufacturers Warranty
* DSE Standard Minimum Warranty of ninety (90) days
* DSE Change Of Mind Policy of fourteen (14) days

Depends on the individual product if you get a Warranty Card but if you don't keep the receipt safe as this then becomes your Warranty Card.

If the items are returned they must be repacked in their original packaging and must be complete with their instruction books, accessories and CD. They must also be accompanied by proof of purchase, ie your receipt. This is fair enough and I have never had any hassles getting my money back or exchanging for another product should I want to do that.

You can buy at one branch and return it to another. Definitely an advantage in your parents situation.

Check out their help page on their website here. (http://www.dse.co.nz)

457459 2006-05-24 13:23:00 DSE have honoured every warranty I've had to date... had to replace things or get a refund 3 times over the last few years.

Each time has required me to be a bit harsh with them though.

Only major problem I had was when requesting a full refund for a memory stick at the Botany branch, and the simpleton of a manager insisted on testing the item before he gave me the refund.

They will honour it with a bit of arguing .
It won't have to go to Wngtn or Akland anyway - all the manufacturers have local agents to take care of any repairs . But normally it will just get replaced rather than fixed nowdays .

I too have had excellent service from DSE here in Nelson both in refunds and a warranty claim.

Greg,
Unlike members ogf the PF 1 forum there are some unscrupulous members of the public and sales assistants do sometimes have to take precautions, lets assume he'd had a bad day when you went in!!

457462 2006-05-24 22:01:00 My experience is that the DSE warranty and return policies are second to none .
But you will need the receipt, and I can't understand the comment on the "ink rubbing off" if it's kept in a folder .

If you use the folder that much, simply put a clear pocket insert in it for such receipts .

457463 2006-05-24 22:03:00 I always thought DSE used thermal paper for their receipts, and hence wouldn't rub off?

In any case, when I bought a laptop from them, they printed out an extra copy of the receipt on A4 paper for me.

457464 2006-05-24 22:10:00 I have had no problems with warranty claims from DSE in Napier. I think it depends on the policies laid down by the local manager. When I was on dial up I had one of those thingys that allow you to recieve incoming phone calls while online. It failed after 8 months took it back and they sent it away. It was replaced with a new one.

457465 2006-05-25 06:45:00 I received EXCELLENT service from Hamilton store, well my wife did. Cheap dvd player purchased few months earlier stopped working. Wife was going into town so asked her to take it in. We had no receipt but did have eftpos transaction on bank statement. I was prepared for a big NO. How wrong I was.
Firstly - there was actually no fault with the unit, one of my kids managed to stick some playing cards into the dvd draw. These were removed right there and then (I was embarrassed I didnt look at it earlier) and unit tested successfully. However that was not the best part. As a precaution they (with no prompting at all from my wife) decided it better to give her a replacement unit.

I know this was way outside of ANY policy of ANY company. This may have been more good luck than anything but as a result of that service I always visit them as first choice and have recommended others to them as well.

457466 2006-05-25 08:33:00 I'd recommend DSE anytime. They even take back things if you change your mind in 14 days, which in my book is pretty bloody good. Jester (13)
