Since the Government announced its plans to open Telecom's network to rivals three weeks ago there has been optimism in some quarters that improved broadband is a matter of months away. But Mr Cunliffe today moved to hose down those expectations. I think it's likely that they are giving Telecom some breathing space to 'get their house in order' before the free-for-all. At least there is hope with some of the other ISps already (IHUG & Telstra come to mind) saying that they are starting to invest in infrastructure now on the basis that they know they will get a level playing field in the near (cough) future. |
