457216 2006-05-23 22:28:00 as a lot of you know some of us here on PF1 have fuji finepix camera's . . . . . . . . . . . .

and thought some others may like to know this info who own one . . .

I was interested in getting a zoom lense extension for my camera, S5000, but lo and behold . . . . . . . . . . . they dont make them any more? only wide angle lense's . . . . . an i dont want one of those .
I received this peice of info from Harvey Norman as they can no longer supply them . Due to being discontinued . . . . . . . bugga . . . now im not one for saying that this info is true and correct . . . salespeople are notorious for little misdemenours arnt they?

so ill have to find a second hand one if i really want one that bad . . . . . or upgrade the camera instead . . . lol :stare:

unless i find another supplier? who may have some in stock . Its not likely that it would be a common item to have on the shelf would it?

oh well,
infomation overload time over . . .
enjoy your day .

457218 2006-05-24 00:33:00 Harvey Normans would not be the place to get this from though, I found that the Fuji Teleconverter was both hard to come by and expensive, compared to other brands that do the same thing. Try a specialist photographic store.

I bought a Raynox 1.85 Teleconverter and Raynox adapter ring a couple of years back as they were cheaper (and apparently better) than the Fuji brand.

457219 2006-05-24 05:47:00 Id not proabably buy one from them, but as i was in there getting something else i asked . . . . . and was disappointed to find out they may be not made any more . . . . .

Im not sure i think wangavegus has a specialty camera shop any more . . . . . . so talking to some one about this may prove difficult . . . . .

I would also have to find a brand that wangavegus stocks and fits my camera i guess . . . . . . . and as to budget ill just have to save harder andlonger i guess . . . . . . .

and as to the website . and fuji genuine stuff . . . . . . . . yes that would be the item, but doesnt mean there are any in my hickville town i guess . . . . .

thank you for your help though .

457220 2006-05-24 06:19:00 Why on earth do you want a tele convertor for your camera beetle? With my S602 I can see the hairs in the neighbour's nostrils at 50 paces. And if I get close enough to the olfactory doo dad it has a super macro setting :p Shortcircuit (1666)
457221 2006-05-24 07:04:00 I want range for unobtrusive photos.............. among other things....

I take my camera almost everywhere with me...........and i find that you can only keep up with kids for so long...at the park, lake and beach.
Id really like to get more closeup stuff and find that my current lense is good, but not getting the full benefit because i cant get close enuf fast enuf before the kids move again........

Im not likely to use it for super close up stuff.............not sure id like to see that closely someones nose.....

and really do i have to have a reason? isnt it enuf i want something? :p i need it.:p

its just an idea at this stage, i can see more benefits for me than negatives....... i currently have 8 thousand photos on my puter..... so its not like ill get something i wont have a use for....

457222 2006-05-24 07:23:00 I find with my 1 . 85 Teleconverter lens that I can take the photo of the neibours nose hairs from a neighbouring suburb . . .

I can just about capture a pix of Cicero from here I think?

It's huge piece of glass though, so it does not affect the light transmission .

Makes the camera easy to hold as well .

My understanding was that few people actually bought the Fuji brand lens, probably why its not available now . Most went for other brands as they were better, cheaper or both .

As the Fuji camera has the threaded lens, it's able to take a number of makes of teleconverter, all you need is the correct adapter ring and they come in all different flavours for about $30 .

457223 2006-05-24 07:28:00 Different flavours huh? i will keep that in mind.......chocolate or strawberry?
:p

LOL may have to do some searching then...... and find someone that stocks something suitable to try......

thanxs Goddie...:D

457224 2006-05-24 07:47:00 Hello Beetle: I am inclined to agree with Shortcircuit about the need for a teleconverter lens .

He has a S602 camera . So does GF & so do I . This camera has a 6x zoom lens with a max zoom of 210mm ( in 35mm equiv terms) .

You have the S5000 I believe . This already has a mighty 10x zoom lens with a max zoom of 370mm . This is very close to the 388mm that GF achieves with his 1 . 85 teleconverter on the S602 .

I also have the S9500 with 10 . 7x zoom, max = 300mm, and would very rarely find the need for more .

There is another concern . Using the maximum zoom is not easy . Focus, and camera shake are problems . If you were to put a 1 . 5 converter on your present camera, the equiv focal length would = 555mm . The rule to avoid camera shake, is that when using zoom, the shutter speed should not be less than 1/focal length =(1/500sec) for the max zoom you are considering . Very bright lighting is required for exposures like that .

Sorry if thats all so much geeky stuff, but the bottom line is that lenses like that are very tricky to get good results .

Regards,
Bazza .

457225 2006-05-24 07:55:00 Hi Beetle,

I have a similar Fuji and read a number of reviews on the article you are mentioning.

At least three persons wished they hadn't spent the money, they felt it was next to useless for technical reasons that now escape me...

If you have the serial no's etc of the unit you're looking at, I suggest some heavy googling before you expend you hard earned. I recall at the time it put me right off.
