| 456942 | 2006-05-22 21:32:00 | Hi Guys I have a problem with an Optical lead from my DVD to my AMP. i have proved it is the cable by changing it with another that I have and things fire up perfectly. The cable hasn't been damaged infact it's been installed behind the racks since day one. If I unplug an end I can see the laser light is still coming thru the cable and a wriggle sometimes makes it work. I'd guess maybe the fibre is damaged in some way or a poor connection. can they be cleaned or should I bite the bullet and acquire another cable. :confused: |

| 456943 | 2006-05-23 00:54:00 | Buy another cable a lot of heat comes from that light at the end of the cable even though you cant feel it it produces heat when both ends are plugged in and it may have just worn out.I suggest you buy a new cable and give it a wiggle to see if you lose the sound or not then you will know if its the cable of the connection in the amp. | Hitech (9024) | ||

The visible red LEDs (not laser diodes) used in these links emit milliwatts. They don't heat the cable by any measurable amount. The fibre would be hard to break ... it's plastic, not glass. If wiping the ends doesn't fix it, I'd say you just have to buy a new one. :( Don't bother wiggling it. You've done that with the borrowed one, I assume. ;) |
