Basically it's about British Telecom response to their forced unbundling. Lets hope New Zealand Government has a few more clues than their Pommy counterparts and write the law correctly to prevent our Telecom doing similar things. According to the above article some of the things British Telecom did was: * Overcharged competitors for local loop access. * Competitors had to be accompanied by BT staff when in it's exchanges. * Competitors equipment was not allowed to be placed next to it's own. * It had to be forced to provide a minimum standard of service to competitors. Telecom might call this playing hard ball, I reckon it's being petty. But then again, in the name of the Mighty Buck... BURNZEE |

Competitor are successfully getting around it with superior technology and service. * Competitors had to be accompanied by BT staff when in it's exchanges. Telstra does this also. * Competitors equipment was not allowed to be placed next to it's own. * It had to be forced to provide a minimum standard of service to competitors. Dunno about these, but Telstra stipulates a minimum number (100 I think) that must be unbundled at once. I.e., a competing telco must wait to get the minimium before they can modify the exchange. I bet Telstra in NZ will complain about these very tactics when used by Telecom against them, the hypocrites. |

Who will wnat to pay unless they have their customers on it generating revenue? Who's city to city infrastructure will they use? And who will overuse the loop to the detriment of all? | tdale (10424) | ||
| 456857 | 2006-05-23 11:28:00 | the city to city infrastructure is already there, its in the interests of the businesses to keep it running because of the ability to charge enormous amounts of data . each company will have the responsibility to maintain the aspects of the network it provides services to as i understand |
