456692 2006-05-22 00:41:00 Hello, does anyone know if there are DVD recorders with inbuilt video editing once its on the hard disk? I have just bought a DSE model and was very surprised that it doesnt have it, so to transfer onto DVD to keep I get to keep the ads, the before section, the waste at the end everything too.

What a joke, I thought with a hard disk they would all have them.

Otherwise, does anyone know if you can network them to your PC to edit?

Also, my DSE model will only record onto +R or +RW not -. Does anyone see this as a problem? I've read elsewhere that +* are going out of fashion.

456694 2006-05-22 00:49:00 Can't say I've ever heard of any DVD recorder having an editing function.

It'll be the same as the DVD video cameras, you can buy. I dont think u can edit these either, unless u copy the recorded video to a PC thru firewire or something, edit it, then reburn it back to DVD.

Unless the recorder has firewire or similar on it, I doubt that you'll be able to edit whatever.

Recording to + should be OK. BUT, not all standalone DVD players maybe able to play + or -.

Hell, the last DVD player I had, which was multizone, didnt like any burned DVD, whether it was +, - or RW lol. Unless it was VCD.

456695 2006-05-22 01:01:00 I've rung Harvey Norman and Dick Smith and neither of them have DVD recorders with the inbuilt editing. It's absurd. Does anyone else think that having a hard disk and not being able to operate simple editing such as delete 30 minutes off the end or anything is just absurd? Sheesh.

Ill have a look at the Pioneer website.

Many, if not most, HDD based DVD recorders sold nowadays will have at least "basic" edit features. By basic, I mean that you should at the very least be able to delete selected portions of the video. Some may also include slightly more advanced features like divide/combine but I wouldn't expect much more than that.

Just saw Buff_K's response. What B!S!. HN sell Sony/Pioneer DVD recorders and those have the edit functions I have described.

456698 2006-05-22 03:34:00 My Panasonic has the ability to delete any length or chapter from a recording on the HDD before burning to DVD. It is a bit time consuming to use though, most of the time I just ffwd past ads really quick.

I think it can also add chapters and combine chapters but that's about the limit as far as editing goes. Complicated bleedin manual too, so I just stick to video editing on my pc. :)

Why oh why do the manuals for these machines have to be so complicated - I've got a Panasonic HDD recorder as well and have just about given up on all that it can do, but I have to say that what it does do it does well. Mostly I record movies from Sky (no adverts anyway) - chop the front and rear off then record to DVD-R, works well.

I think I need a graduate degree in Japanese - English conversion. Conversion seems appropriate not translation

456700 2006-05-22 21:38:00 If anybody wants lessons, tips on the Panasonic recorder and how to edit get in touch with me .

Simple answer hard drive based recorders you can edit, in my case down to one or two single frames can be removed . The Panasonic can record to a RAM disk as well and you can even do the editing on the disk then transfer it back to the hard drive for burning to a DVD -R .

PM me for contact details if you want to discuss it some more .

456701 2006-05-22 23:01:00 I've got an LG and it does the basic editing. I have been recording movies from TV, deleting the ads, add chapters, burnt them onto DVDs. Its quite useful as I can send the DVDs to relatives who missed certain programs or keep those that I want...like Star Wars. The LG uses DVD-R but more functions can be done on DVD-RW ephesus (2509)
