2008-08-24 23:04:00 | About Avast! will show the date of the database. | PaulD (232) | |
2008-08-26 22:07:00 | True, but I was wanting ot see what TIME it was updating. Like if it updates at 3am I am not likely to hear the message!! | linw (53) | |
2008-08-27 00:08:00 | Have a look under updates basic in the program settings, the details button has some updating options like silent mode, and mins to update etc! | SolMiester (139) | |
2008-08-27 02:54:00 | These are at default settings . NOT silent and 240 min update period . Interesting that the database was dated 25/8 . Forced an update and it is now 26/8 . Funny that it wasn't updated automatically . Only using Vista's firewall and it hasn't squealed about stopping a service . Manual update goes OK as well . Must keep an eye on whether the auto update is definitely not functioning .

2008-09-05 01:56:00 | Well, yesterday I confirmed that Avast wasn't being updated automatically so I thought "firewall" . I have been testing Comodo so looked everywhere in its settings but got nowhere . I uninstalled it and within a few minutes after the reboot, the Avast update screen and voice msge appeared! That's two firewall problems today . This one and a zone alarm that probably updated (not my machine) that stopped Internet access . (Ping gave error 65) . Grrrrr:( Anyway, thanks, all, for your efforts . Much appreciated .

2008-09-05 05:46:00 | Zone alarm did have an error that stopped net access due to a windows update, ZA released a patch to fix it | gary67 (56) | |
2008-09-05 06:04:00 | No, it wasn't that one as this particular machine had that one a few weeks ago!! ZA and AVG have been my stalwarts for years but I am off both of them, now . ZA stopped LAN sharing on one site recently . It just wouldn't let any access from other machines in spite of the trusted zone being present, as before . Uninstall has been my major fixit tool, lately!
