It's the equivalent of Norton making a really lousy word processor... :D

I've never been impressed with Defender's ability to detect malware (are we even sure it's supposed to be able to do that?)

But I do like the way it notifies you in realtime about startup changes, internet explorer addons etc.. that's the only good reason I use it. And it does that in a much less annoying way than spybot's teatimer

For actual detection of malware I use other programs.

698805 2008-08-20 05:43:00 Well, of course it doesn't - its an MS product. Just like Windows Defender, and the Repair function in Vista to name a few other useless bits of code.

Hey, repair works about 90% of the time, and MS Office 2007 is probably the best out there, Open Office looks old and a little hard to use compared to Office 07. And don't forget Silverlight. MS isn't that bad. And Windows Complete PC Backup works remarkably well.

Just to balance the opinion on this thread.

P.S In my opinion, the worst MS thing ever made is Windows ME, and yes, I know OneCare sucks, but hey, it is MS's first AV, and might be run by the crappy people in MS. The best always goes onto better things, like Windows 7 and Office version 14.
