698709 2008-10-02 03:27:00 I have this problem with Word 2000 professional on my SP3 win XP pro Lappie.
I have looked for normal.dot and it isn't showing up. The program will open through the cmd window.
What next?
Maybe a reinstall?
thanks guys,
Rob

698710 2008-10-02 03:53:00 Open My Computer / tools/Folder Options/View, Dot/select "Show hidden Files and folders", While in there Untick "Hide Extensions for known file types"

Easiest way to find it - click Start/Search/All files and folders In the search box type in normal.dot Make sure from the search you click "more advanced options" and tick the boxes "Search System Folders - Search for Hidden Files and Folders & Search Sub Folders"

When you search it will show the normal.dot file(s) in the search pane, rename to Normal.old - agree to any warnings about files not working.

close the search and try opening word as usual.

Rob No Worries - Glad it fixed it

The Normal file is one of the first things I look at when Any part of Office goes Belly up - Learnt that just after Office 97 came out.
