This time I agree with Karl Du Fresne, he must have read my plea in PF1 recently for bringing back M O W :)

See what he thinks about TV !
I agree also, re ridiculous amount of time to do these jobs.
If the locals can't do the job to a time, then bring in outsiders.
Certainly no need for the old MOW shovel leaner's.
Some gov, dept. hires these road builders, the should stipulate a time to get job done.
TV demise has to lay at the feet of this government.

455189 2006-05-16 07:48:00 That article on stuff would have to be the most idiotic dribble I have read in weeks, If they had speced that teh roads be built to 1970's standards and on flat land with unlimited resources as per his examples a modern contractor could spit out a drivabke service in a small amount of time, Nowadays the gameplan is a thousand times more thourough. Big picture...Materials, Design, Method of constuction, Drainage, vechile capacity, expected lifespan, ecology,...for freaks sake , Todays paperwork alone probally takes more manpower then the entire procect 30 years ago. And thats without even hitting the topic of locals and their Tapu's for money.

Stupidity at its peak.

As for the local contractors?

You need to prove a certain capability before you can even tender on these contracts, It matters not whether you are in Gore, Bulls or Auckland.

455190 2006-05-16 08:20:00 Ahhh ... Mr Plod. Do you have no sense of humour??

Anyway, voting for the worst (similar to this for American Idol (http://www.votefortheworst.com) ), or non-existant, performer may send TVNZ a message.
Or it may not, I don't think they listen very well anyway. :dogeye:

455191 2006-05-16 08:28:00 Not total dribble Met.

When I was driving in the centre of Milan in the 70s, I was driving over a road built by the Romans nearly 2000 years ago, the authorities were thinking of closing it to traffic because it was beginning to show signs of wear.

A newly sealed New Zealand road will be showing pot holes within 2 days, not 2000 years, as did the Kaitoke Hill road.

The base construction and road surfacing methods in NZ is generally more appropriate to the 1920s than the 21st C.

455192 2006-05-16 08:43:00 Sorry, Genius that you maybe but I reject that in its entirety, I worked on road constuction 20 years ago, and in the last week, they can't be compared. Metla (12)

Be that as it may Met, but I'd suggest you haven't experienced other than NZ roading systems.

Please explain why the first tar seal layer usually pot holes through to the basecourse crud within a day or two especially when wet.

They then eventually fill the pot holes, then after doing that sort of thing for a while they get around to the second seal, as I say it is archaic.
