2008-08-20 22:21:00 | How do you get Avast to use the speech notification of updates? A new Vista laptop does it but my Vista PC and several other XP PC's don't. | linw (53) | |
2008-08-20 22:32:00 | Dont think you have to do anything, it should speak by default | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2008-08-20 22:56:00 | Interesting, I have Avast Home Free on 4 systems here & only one has the audible notification. They were all installed in the same manor, 3 are XP & 1 Vista. | Driftwood (5551) | |

2008-08-21 01:50:00 | Have installed Avast on a wide variety of machines from elderly laptops to new high end desktops. Audio notifications always work by default unless the audio/ soundcard itself is faulty Regards Peter

2008-08-21 04:00:00 | Well, I guess this thread can be classified as "inconclusive"! Thanks for the replies - I'll keep looking.

2008-08-21 06:58:00 | Right Click on the Avast Icon on your taskbar. -> Program Settings -> Sounds -> Settings -> Under Program events, find the heading called "avast! antivirus" and then click "Automatic VPS update" and this is the sound that should play "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\English\vpsupd" -> If you dont see it, browse until you find it and click on "OK"

2008-08-21 21:57:00 | Thanks, Beeswax. It all seems OK as the voice message file is there and the test button produces the voice fine. True on both a Vista and XP install here. It seems as if the installs go OK but somehow the trigger to play the sound does not do anything. Must be a reason. Will keep trying. Thanks again.
