698847 2008-08-20 06:17:00 Hi Team

I have found that PDF files more often than not hang when trying to close them in Firefox, but the same files close without problems if opened in IE. Very occasionally they will close if left for a long period (several minutes) but mostly I have to use the three fingered salute to get them off screen.

Is this a regular problem with FF? If not, what should I look for?

Cheers

698848 2008-08-20 07:04:00 I got sick of the same thing, and changed to Foxit reader that loads far quicker, and actually shuts down when you want it to. supergran (108)

698851 2008-08-20 10:54:00 Try this extension/add-on Billy T, you will go straight to the install, don't get the latest version, use this one. You get the opportunity to open the .pdf in an external viewer instead of opening in the Firefox browser, works quite well really:

addons.mozilla.org

698852 2008-08-20 12:20:00 I think that supergrans suggestion is a good option

Foxit is a much better PDF reader (www.foxitsoftware.com) (imho) - very small footprint - very fast both opening (and closing) LOL

and doesn't have any of the bloat that Adobe Reader seems to.

You don't need to do anything with Firefox - it will just open the PDF's in a separate foxit window automatically (if you uninstall Adobe reader and install Foxit)

@zqwerty - that link of yours seems to just open an "about:blank" page in my Firefox for some reason - don't know if it's just me??
havent seen that happen before

If I right click - copy link location and paste into an address bar it works fine! strange

Before I try this, I note that the file name has XP at the start and I am using W2K. Is there a version for the earlier OS or will this one be OK?

698854 2008-08-20 23:35:00 XP at the start or xpi at the end? .xpi is a zip file used by Firefox PaulD (232)
698855 2008-08-21 00:12:00 Do you not like Foxit for some reason? bevy121 (117)

That one refuses to install zqwerty, could it be my W2K?
