| 698736 | 2008-08-19 20:58:00 | I have a job to do on two PCs, using 98, that have DOS passwords. I do think that it is possible to disable the DOS password by moving the shunts on the jumpers on the motherboard, but I was wondering if it were possible to not just disable the passwords but to dump them altogether. I wondered if it were possible to disable them in the BIOS where I imagine they might have been set up in the first place. The reason that I wish to rid the PCs of the DOS password is that it is too restrictive as no-one else can logon to these PCs. Instead, I will set up user accounts which, to me, makes more sense, particularly as user accounts would more secure. Your expert help, as usual, will be most appreciated. Ta.:thanks |

| 698738 | 2008-08-19 22:08:00 | yeh it's a 'security' function built into the bios and can be disabled very simply by clearin the cmos battery settings.....you cant 'permanently' remove that function tho it'll always be coded into the bios but it'll only be functional if someone inputs a password normally after removing the password by clearing the cmos the password prompt wont show up ever again unless someone puts another password in | drcspy (146) | ||

| 698740 | 2008-08-19 23:38:00 | Can you see a model # on the motherboard? Often it's between the PCI (white) slots, or beside the CPU (normally toward the front of the PC). That way we can google for a picture and show you where the jumper is. Or you could take a pic and upload it. Or just take the battery out for 20 mins or so. |
