| 456614 | 2006-05-21 11:31:00 | Now that Transmission Gully has got the go ahead it looks like we are finally going to get a decent motorway into the capital city - one day. Don't hold your breath, good things take time. Due to the Wellington's layout however, you are still going to get massive bottlenecks going into the city. Also the price of petrol will only continue to rise. So maybe we won't need a motorway after all. Now, I know the existing buses and train networks are doing a great job moving great numbers of people to and from Wellington every day so here's a novel idea. Give public transport the money instead of building the motorway!! Our train network does an excellent job using old outdated equipment, thanks to the Girls and Guys on the coalface at Transmetro. Think of the numbers they move on Stadium Night to the rugby, (go the Canes). There are problems to be sure but this proves my point, it is due to a lack of decent funding in the past. If you live in the Wellington area, this issue may not concern you now but it will come back and bite you in the future so what yah think!! BURNZEE |

Upgrade the trolley-bus network, upgrade the rail system so we can get more people onto public transport - and in particular, less reliance on fossil-fuel powered technologies. There's no excuse to be running diesel buses within the Wellington CBD, because there is a viable electric option available. Wellington's roads are congested enough as it is, but I'm fortunate enough to live within walking distance to work so the daily commute isn't an issue for me. Friends who take the train into town find it great - they can spend the time catching up on sleep, or doing some reading etc. | somebody (208) | ||
