699653 2008-08-23 05:51:00 I tried using my webcam today (our new tablet PC has a webcam, so we wanted to try it out). Problem is, there's no picture on my computer. It's just black. The webcam is a DSE one I bought before Vista came out, and when I try updating the driver, Vista deems it up to date.

How do I get a picture from the webcam?

699654 2008-08-23 05:56:00 I would find out what the brand/model is, then go to the site

Not use Vista / windowsupdate to update the driver

What does it say in device manager for the cam? Does it say a name?

699655 2008-08-23 06:11:00 The DSE Cam is a pain in the butt - you need to install the video editing software thats on the CD to get a picture.

Just installed the other night for a customer who also brought one from DSE, and it wasn't till the software went in that you even had any options to change any settings  The drivers went in fine, but no other software.

On the other side, I installed a genius cam and it installed the drivers & software.

I guess I have to install the software - if it likes Vista.

699657 2008-08-23 06:13:00 What are you using to see the picture??

Does its icon appear in computer, like in XP? So you can see a pic?

699658 2008-08-23 06:15:00 That was quick

I'm trying to get the picture to appear in Windows Live Messenger.

699659 2008-08-23 06:19:00 There isnt something like a tuner in / on it as well is there??

As this is also a capture device, and most IM programs will set this as the default device, until you change it

Does its icon appear in computer?

If it does, does a pic appear?

699660 2008-08-23 06:27:00 Its icon doesn't appear in Computer. I don't think it has a tuner - only one webcam shows up in WLM. pcuser42 (130)
699661 2008-08-23 06:30:00 WHAT version of the drivers are installed for the cam under device manager?

4.0.0.15?

There must be a set of 3 letters on it somewhere. What are they?
