699215 2008-08-21 22:42:00 Hi Guys

I have one of these popular printers a Brother HL2040.

I have had it for 18 months and am very pleased with it. I am on my first replacement toner cartridge and have gone through about 10 reams of A4 paper on it.

My problem is that lately it often sends out a page all crinkled up concertina style. And sometimes it jams up the paper and I have to clear it. About 1 in every 20 sheets, its becoming a bit of a pain.

My question is, is it the paper I am using ? - the same since I started. Is it the weather ? or does the paper path need cleaning or lubing etc ?

Any suggestions ?

699216 2008-08-21 23:27:00 How damp is the room that your printer is in? I've found in the past with Brother lasers that if the paper is a bit damp (due to cold/humid weather), it will have a tendency of crinkling. somebody (208)

699218 2008-08-22 02:34:00 Well, we are in winter, I am in Tauranga, but my printer is in the lounge and I keep it failry warm most of the time. It is not damp. Digby (677)

How much did you pay for toner?
I have same machine and was thinking I would get a new one when ink gone.

699220 2008-08-22 06:30:00 Over many years and several models, I finally decided that the best thing about the Brother printers was the satisfying crash they make when you toss them into the wheelie bin... godfather (25)
699221 2008-08-22 06:31:00 Damp paper will curl up not crinkle.
That is more likely to be something blocking the paper path.

Can't remember exactly, but I see what you mean. And I had thought about it.

I think it was about $89.00 for a toner (ink ?) cartridge. Versus $ 129.00 for a new printer. Crazy isn't it.

As G-F noted, they are not noted for longevity, but for price renewing is the way to go and no paper crinkling.

If and when someone else brings out a better B&W printer, then I shall look at it,but my Brother has worked like a charm.
