| 458808 | 2006-05-29 07:34:00 | Hi Beetle "Thorne withdraws from Junior All Blacks" 29 May 2006 Crusaders veteran Reuben Thorne has withdrawn from the Junior All Blacks rugby squad. His withdrawal was announced today, one day after he was named to captain the team The Junior All Blacks are to contest the inaugural Pacific Five Nations tournament next month, starting with a game against Fiji on Saturday. Thorne's place in the 26-man squad has gone to North Harbour loose forward Anthony Boric, while the captaincy is temporarily vacant. In announcing his withdrawal, the New Zealand Rugby Union said Thorne, 31 and a veteran of 41 tests for the All Blacks, had instead decided to undertake "a recovery and reconditioning programme" after his Crusaders team's victory in the Super 14 final over the Hurricanes last Saturday. "Reuben is an extremely experienced player who holds himself to very high standards and we respect his decision," All Blacks coach Graham Henry said. "We picked him for the Junior All Blacks because of his good form and leadership abilities but he tells us he needs a recovery window right now, so that's the best thing." Thorne played in every Super 14 match for the Crusaders this season. |

| 458811 | 2006-05-29 09:43:00 | The all blacks are a bit of a joke, aren't they. At one time it was an honour to make the all blacks. A team of 20/25 was selected and they were the best in NZ. They whent on tour and played twice a week. Today the poor fragile whimps can't play two weeks in a row. In fact the majority of them can't even last one game. Seems that anyone who owns a pair of football boots will become an all black if he sticks around till his turn comes. The mob running the game in this country have completely devalued the honour of being an all black. I haven't watched a rugby match for years. The poor fragile fairies don't deserve to be watched. Now at least we have league to watch |

| 458814 | 2006-05-29 13:18:00 | I saw the Crusaders come back from Australia about three weeks ago at the airport. I stood beside Richie McCaw and a few others, they are very big and tough, I was surprised by their sheer physical presence, wouldn't want to tangle with any of them. | zqwerty (97) | ||
