458264 2006-05-28 17:04:00 Aren't two of them already spending time in Jail for a rape they were convicted of a couple years ago, Didn't it seem a little odd that during the most recent case that only the big boofhead was shown arriving and leaving court....

yes metla ithe fact that the other two were/are currently serving time for the same type of offence was suppressed so that the jury wouldn't be unfairly influenced......GGGRRRR

We've already had one witch hunt in New Zealand in the form of Peter Ellis - who has yet to be cleared despite the overwhelming evidence now available that he didn't get a fair trial, and most likely did nothing wrong. I don't think given the kind of sentiments expressed here they'll get a fair trial if it gets that far again.

yeh well...peter ellis wasn't already in jail for a similar offence was he ?.....different entirely

458265 2006-05-28 22:12:00 Most of us have no conception of what it is like in the oxygen starved air above 8000m. In essence human beings cannot survive at this height - it is a slow death. Acclimatisation isn't possible. The brain turns to mush and everything is a great effort. Take a breath, take a step.

So rescue in the normal sense of the word isn't an option. Apart from the lack of equipment, it's an incredibly dangerous place, and climbers are functioning at moron level. When a rescue is achieved the injured climber has to be concious and capable of at least placing his feet.

When this furore originally broke out I believed that Inglis and his party were right - and I'm still inclined to that view. However the subsequent rescue of Lincoln Hall gives pause for thought. He was also left for dead but is alive now.

I can only suppose that the North Ridge gives rescuers better terrain to descend than the classic South-West Ridge. But clearly the answer that nothing could be done at 8,700m isn't true.

While one admires the courage of Mark Ingles, one must question the motive for attempting such a dangerous task especially as he is a double amputee ie. risking the lives of those who 'helped' him attain his dream. Yes, his campaign was better prepared/equipped than most, but at what cost - and to whom?

458266 2006-05-29 02:01:00 I'm amazed there seems to be an opinion out there relating to the Police trial that people aren't innocent until proven guilty (assuming they've been charged with something). You seem to forget the three Police were acquitted of allegations in the Louise Nicholas case and from what I heard of the trial that was really the only outcome possible open to the jury given her strange evidence. Being accused twice is not evidence of guilt.

When two of them are already in jail for the same convictions then there must be some truth in it. If they can do it once and get away with it, whats to stop them doing it again. When there's smoke theres a fire.

458267 2006-05-29 02:09:00 Past convictions for anything don't make you guilty of new allegations. So your reasoning goes if you have ever been charged with anything you must be guilty when you are charged a second time. I bet you think there are witches out there as well. Twelvevolts (5457)
458268 2006-05-29 02:13:00 Nope, doesn't make em guilty, but it does prove that the people in question are capable of that sort of behaviour, which some people would struggle with, seeing as they are police officers after all and suposedly sworn to stop others from undertaking such action.

Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, lock em up with the rest of the ducks.

458270 2006-05-29 02:21:00 Iraq?

Now thats just being silly, These rapists are getting a trial, not invaded.

458271 2006-05-29 02:26:00 a trial??

You had then locked up for life a minute ago. Why bother with a trial if you know the result?

458273 2006-05-29 03:03:00 As regards the Sharpe chap - nobody, nobody desrves to be left to die alone. Someone of the 40 passersby should have stayed with him but probably not Inglis as that might have put his own life in danger.

As regards the cops on trial - Louise Nicolas had all the strife of her past dragged through the court so why wasn't the same allowed to happen for those accused of her rape.
