699876 2008-08-30 00:43:00 The MS OneCare removal tool would be worth running as well, to make sure all the remnants of it's installation are actually removed

Thanks Bevy121 I have already used that removal tool so as far as I am concerned it should not be on my system.. Gordon

699877 2008-08-30 00:51:00 Hi Feersumendjinn, I cant even get into my router now.. I have given up I cant even do a recovery as I get a LTLDR is missing so I think I will take it to a computer shop and see what they say.. I just keep getting confused going round and round in circles and Microsoft web sites confuse me even more when they send me to sites and what I am looking for is never what I seem to be looking for.. Thanks for all your help.. Gordon Gordon_P (12244)
699878 2008-08-30 01:06:00 Microsoft web "help" sites are mostly the least help possible, and as you have already discoverd, generally the most confusing. bevy121 (117)
699879 2008-08-30 06:07:00 hahahaha I am glad I am not the only one then.. I have given it to a computer shop to fix so will see what happens.. If he comes up with with something new I will post it on here...Gordon Gordon_P (12244)

699881 2008-08-30 06:32:00 I have never been unable to access the internet since I bought itYou didn't mention this important fact earlier. Did you install the SP3 from a CD? How are you connecting to your router? Does your email program work OK? Did you try a different browser?

Did you try opening up the command window and pinging 66.249.93.104? (google.co.nz)

Edit: I see you have taken the laptop to a tech, so it will be interesting to find out what the problem was.

699882 2008-08-31 03:16:00 Just reading an interesting article in the latest Aust PCUSER Mag - could be the same problem - MS Site (support.microsoft.com) - according to the article - its to do with the router issuing the DHCP - so try setting your IP address to static on the PC affected.

If you dont know how - Look at this article (ask-leo.com) - where it says your DNS enter the DNS server address for your ISP.

Example: Telstra is 203.96.152.4 & 203.96.152.12

Xtra - 202.27.158.40 then 202.27.156.72

Who is your ISP ?

699884 2008-08-31 08:51:00 Hi wainuitech, Thanks for that information always good to get some feedback, I am with Xtra but did not know there static address but do now.. I have put the laptop in to a workshop now to get fixed, I really thought it was going to be easier than it was, when one thing was fixed another thing goes wrong until I did the full circle, Most of the time I was connected to the internet but could not access in or out.. 699885 2008-08-31 09:48:00 Hee hee, beat ya to it, Wainui, see post #20 ;) yep you did  But it was interesting that the problem as described in the PCUSER mag seemed the same, SP3 can break several things, and from experience, its usually the TCP/IP stack.

Looking at the site, the hotfix is there as well for that problem, just downloaded it - but of course no good to me at the moment as I don't have any connection problems.
