Legally there is no such place as Hutt City, it is a figment of the City of Lower Hutts Councils imagination, because they objected to the word "Lower" in their name as being somewhat demeaning as compared to the word "Upper" in the legally correct name "Upper Hutt". Along the approach roads will be seen council road signs saying "Welcome to Hutt City", and adjacent are the legal Transit signs saying "Lower Hutt". "Hutt City" was never gazetted and so just does not exist. |

The point is, it is not part of Wellington and is more like an outer suburb of Christchurch. |
