457825 2006-05-26 20:55:00 Ah an example of the great offerings other ISPs will offer once they are free of Telecom. Oh hang on, these are supposed to be the good guys? pctek (84)

Thats hardly fair - IHUG had a viable business model until Telecom changed the rules.

457827 2006-05-26 21:50:00 I think the rules didn't change, Telecom got the technology to enforce them. ISPs make their money by pushing the limits where they can. PaulD (232)
457828 2006-05-27 00:05:00 Well telecom robs you blind. So why shouldn't Ihug have a piece of you too? JJJJJ (528)
457829 2006-05-27 00:29:00 Thats hardly fair - IHUG had a viable business model until Telecom changed the rules. The rules were well and truly in place. It was only a matter of time till they were enforced.

We'd made damn sure we weren't over it for that reason, seems iHug might've been a bit cocky.

457830 2006-05-27 03:55:00 ... 14. Changing these terms

We can change these terms at any time. We will notify you of any change before it comes into effect. Those who think that they have an irrevocable unchangeable contract should think again. I am sure that all ISPs have a similar clause.

457831 2006-05-27 04:52:00 Just received an email from Ihug that they would start counting in the uploads to the monthly data cap starting July 2006. I switched to ihug from quicksilver because of the unlimited data upload. What the hell is going on???

It's all a part of "Faster and cheaper broadband" :(

457832 2006-05-27 04:59:00 I don't think anybody has desputed that fact that IHUG can change their terms any time they feel like it, I think the bit that sticks is that now NZ is heading towards unbundling (yep probably a year + away) the local loop we expect Broadband to get faster and cheaper with bigger quotas. I don't think anyone was expecting to have a slightly reduced service with no cost change. gcarmich (10068)
457833 2006-05-28 01:23:00 I see the packages of cheese IO buy have changed from 750 gm to 700 gm with no price change. (Some brands have 650 gm packs ... which were probably once 750). Many other lines in the supermarket have the same trend.

How the hell do you think the local loop unbundling will lead to cheaper broadband?

Who's going to maintain that copper from the exchange to you? Who's going to pay for that? YOU. Will it be cheaper? NO.

457834 2006-05-28 01:31:00 Interesting, I've lived through unbundling before, how about you? OK - in the UK the scale is larger, but the same pricipals apply, the speeds went up, the prices went down. gcarmich (10068)
