457701 2006-06-05 23:20:00 just an update for those interested . . .
The driveway alert is functional . I did use the Sellys Allclear so hope that will last . I tried to completely seal the interior of the post where I had chipped out a cavity with a chisel with a thick layer of the sellys stuff and placed a sachet of desicant inside before sealing a plate of glass to sit flush within the post . I completed this little project by purchasing two Arlec wireless doorbells ($25 each from mitre ten) and modified one of the transmitter buttons to be operated by the N . O . relay contacts of the gate alarm .

Since the gate alarm also has a 12v dc output, I removed the battery from the doorbell transmitter and wired it up with this output . For the second pushbutton transmitter I changed the tune it will send the two speakers (placed at different ends of the house) so it is easy to distinguish between someone passing the driveway alert and someone ringing the front door bell .

The last major issue I had was with the early morning sun setting off the alarm . This has been solved by placing a block of thick wood with two holes drilled through it for the infrared light to pass through (spraypainted black) in front of the glass plate that the electronics are sealed in with . Frost doesnt bother it much now but I suspect bugs will want to climb inside the holes where the light beam passes through, so I intend to spray it with insecticide of somesort .

Had thought I would just post a few photos which would have meant a fraction of the explanation required but appears that posting photos is not a feature of this forum?

457703 2006-06-06 04:07:00 Thanks for the tip :)

heres some pics:
Modified Arlec transmitter (fitted with low voltage ac power socket removed from infrared gate alert feeding power to gate where dc voltage is returned for transmitter operation) working off N.O. relay contacts of infrared gate alert:

Tinted glass cover plate mounted into post (not enough frost protection from lip of post above glass, and near direct angle of sunlight in the morning meant modifications necessary):

You might bevel the top of the add-on block to help rain run off it.
