2008-08-25 23:58:00 | Yea I was thinking the same thing Safari... If you do have ZA Gordon - go to firewall tab and set "Internet Zone Security" from High to Med and if you can then get internet access, you will need to get the latest ZA which has that problem fixed - then after it's updated, reset Internet Zone Security back to high

2008-08-26 09:51:00 | No I have not got Zone Alarm.. When I installed Live One Care I removed all Virus type programs as One Care suggested it better if it does the lot. I dont know how to disable the One Care Firewall but it would be still running.. I just found out where to change the firewall settings. I turned off the firewall and also set IE to medium from Medium/High, I reconfigured the firewall to allow me to go through another computer but that has not worked... I can get onto the network now and the Internet shows as connected but still cant get out.. I did another IE diagnosed Connection test and the error at the end says "Could not make an HTTP/HTTPS/FTP Connection. Hope this helps and also appreciate your inputs... | 699869 | 2008-08-26 09:58:00 | It looks like Onecare blocks the internet especially in Vista. As shown here (www.google.com) Its probably just as bad in XP. I woud uninstall it

2008-08-28 10:43:00 | Is that the Winsockfix or some other program ?? I have just checked again and it was "Winsockxpfix" that I tried. I tried to download "Winsockfix" and when I run it I get a windows message Winsockfix.exe is not a valid Win32 Application!!?? Now I have the generic host has to close down on reboots but I have my networks working again and the Internet connected Icon tells me I am running at 4.6Mbps but still not able to get out or in and the RPC server is unavailable... | 699873 | 2008-08-29 08:11:00 | Yes I had it set for automatic updates, I have never been unable to access the internet since I bought it | Gordon_P (12244) | |
2008-08-29 08:33:00 | The MS OneCare removal tool (download.microsoft.com) would be worth running as well, to make sure all the remnants of it's installation are actually removed | bevy121 (117) | |
2008-08-29 14:17:00 | Perhaps this is your problem support.microsoft.com After applying SP3 you may experience DHCP server issues and affects some routers especially the Billion BiPAC 5200G and 5200N (a fix is available on their website). Options if you lose network connectivity after applying XP SP3? 1. Disable DHCP for your router and configure every PC on your LAN for static TCP/IP settings. Except for the IP address itself which must be different for each PC, all PC's must have the same static settings. 2. If the router manufacturer has a firmware upgrade available to cope with SP3, download and install it. This is the best bet if having your router act as a DHCP server is important to you, but not all router manufacturers have given this high priority. 3. If no new firmware is available for your router, contact Microsoft and install the DHCP hotfix. This may or may not fix your problem. 4. Revert to SP2. This is really a last resort if either configuring static TCP/IP settings doesnt restore your network connectivity, or if you must have your router act as a DHCP server and the previous two options don't resolve the connectivity issue. (This was plagiarised From the Sept issue of Australian PC User, page 71, if you want to look it up :) )
