Also go back and look at where coldot suggested in the format/Paragraph, make sure the settings in indent and Spacing Tab are Like this here (www.imagef1.net.nz).

699334 2008-08-23 07:40:00 Yes, that works as it should.
When you open word from the start menu, it reverts to its old habits again.

The paragraph settings are as per screenshot posted by coldot.

699335 2008-08-23 08:47:00 Ok as mentioned earlier, your normal file could be damaged, by using the winword.exe /a command it bypasses most settings that can cause troubles.

click start / search, Select All Files and Folders, In the name type in normal.dot - scroll down , under more advanced options, make sure search Hidden files and folders, Search System folders are selected.

From the top of the page Select tools/folder options/view Tab, scroll down till you see "hidden Files and folders" and select "show hidden files and folders" accept and close the window

Hit the search button.

When the search locates the Normal file, select it, As Shown Here (www.imagef1.net.nz) Right click it and rename it to Normal.old Ignore/agree to any warnings about not being usable.

Close the search, Reopen Word as you normally would and try again, word will automatically make a New Normal.dot file.

See if it works OK now.

699336 2008-08-23 09:45:00 yea, yippee, marvelous, it works,

I thankyou from the bottom of my keyboard, etc.

Any idea what may have caused the problem? Just one of those things, or something I could have done without thinking. Not unusual for me.

Without people like yourself we would be up the proverbial creek.

Again thanks.

699337 2008-08-23 10:17:00 Good that it fixed the problem, glad to be able to help - What caused it ???

Maybe a change in the weather, holding your tongue wrong :p Who knows .

The Normal . dot file holds many features and if it gets damaged its easy to replace, and one of the first fixes I try on any problem with MS Office .

Usually if the winword . exe /a command fixes it, there's a high chance its the normal file damaged .

That's an old fix that goes as far back as I can remember with most office products . Office 97 used to be real good at doing the fault .
