458244 2006-05-27 11:05:00 I'm not qualified to talk about the logistics of a rescue but could any of you walk past just thinking "I'm here and I've paid all this money to get to the top so bugger that guy dieing over there"?
So **** the "sport" of climbing mountains if thats what its about.
The next time you drive past a bad road accident without stopping you have the consolation of thinking the driver was probably drunk, hadn't maintained the vehicle and doesn't have insurance.

I don't think you can't compare the two. They are both in an entirely differant situation.

And we were not there on Everest at that time and therefore should not comment.

458246 2006-05-27 19:15:00 The bit that annoyed me. That smart bugger Hillary expecting a joker on two tin legs to abandon his climb and carry a near dead man down the mountain. JJJJJ (528)
458247 2006-05-27 19:50:00 Easy to say from here to help - although my gut feeling says that is what should have been done.

Question I have is, surely this guy didnt go up there alone? The infamous 40 walked past him but who was supposed to be walking with him?

Oh please, what a lame excuse. We weren't there so we don't know.
He could have TRIED. Or one of the others could have.
You make an effort. What about all those I Shouldn't Be Alive episodes on Sky lately? All those people had similar horrendous situations and bad conditions, they tried!

458249 2006-05-27 22:51:00 I was never in a Nazi concentration camp, does that mean I shouldn't have an opinion about them?
Did anybody suggest that the guy with tin legs should have carried the dieing man down Everest? But he might, just might, have considered staying with him rather than buffing up his ego by completing the climb.

458250 2006-05-27 23:02:00 Of course it wouldn't be an issue if someone hadn't decided that they could save Mark Inglis when he was sheltering in a snow cave all those years ago.

There appear to be two types of mountain climbers- those hell bent on doing it... and those willing to save them.

I have no problem with his amazing achievement and I actually think that his past close call might have had something to do with why he stopped to 'try and help' the climber when others kept going.

The world will be a much sadder place when everyone just walks on by, but it will also be a worse place if people don't attempt the impossible.

458251 2006-05-27 23:18:00 As for the rape - thats what those woman that were made to stop handing out the pamphlets after the Louise case was all about. They'd done it before...
What is there to say.....Hopefully this time they get done for it.

Aren't two of them already spending time in Jail for a rape they were convicted of a couple years ago, Didn't it seem a little odd that during the most recent case that only the big boofhead was shown arriving and leaving court....

458252 2006-05-27 23:18:00 No more than expected, singularly uninformed opinions, so there is no need to get heated if you disagree with some else, it's a case of the blind leading the blind :)

Even having had 8 years in Land Search and Rescue, I am not able to offer any valid opinion either, my experience is bush and sub-alpine tramping.

But I can say none of those climbers would just have happened to have had with them the extra gear required for alpine rescue.

If any of you have ever carried a stretcher as part of a team, over any distance and difficult terrain, belaying down waterfalls, then you would more easily imagine the difficulties magnified a hundredfold up at 30,000feet.
