2008-08-24 02:24:00 | :angry My problem is with my other laptop running XP on a home network after downloading service pack 3 and it was denied access anyway and uninstalled itself. after reboot I am able to connect with local computers but not the internet. I have done "winsockxp download" which never worked and I have been all round Microsoft's website for answers, but so far nothing has worked. I am sometimes able to get the internet connected icon all lit up and the balloon telling me that the internet is now connected, but unable to get out. When I type ipconfig /renew or release I get a message to say "The operation has failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation" Have googled that and also from the Microsoft site and done all there instructions like deleting Winsock and winsock2 but still end back where I was. I am at a loss as to what to do next.. could it be a hardware problem even though nothing shows up? Gordon

2008-08-24 05:27:00 | Thanks Speedy but it did not work. I reset up the network as well. When I first rebooted I got a message to say the generic host never loaded and has to close and also when the new hardware was installed it said to reboot which i did.. But third time boot up does not get me onto the network or the internet I am rebooting it again just to see if anything has changed..Gordon | Gordon_P (12244) | |

2008-08-24 06:18:00 | Hahaha I tried that as all this happened about 3 weeks ago and I could not go further back than 1st August and when I tried it was the 3rd or 4th and a few days after I had lost the internet connection. I even looked up Microsoft for an update for sp3 but by the time I get moved from 1 page to the next I have lost the plot by then... I was lucky enough to win the microsoft parcel with Vista and Office which also included the one care which I had installed on 2 computers and had it all running sweetly when One Care said I need this update.. So far I have the one care on trial as I thought I may as well try it out first.. Gordon | Gordon_P (12244) | |

2008-08-25 01:07:00 | After you deleted the winsock files did you reboot the computer and than do the following Install TCP/IP 1. Right-click the network connection, and then click Properties. 2. Click Install. 3. Click Protocol, and then click Add. 4. Click Have Disk. 5. Type C:\Windows\inf, and then click OK. 6. On the list of available protocols, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.

2008-08-25 09:30:00 | Yes I did reboot and then installed From C:\windows\inf. I have lost network connections too now even though it says it connected, so can only access the xp computer shared documents, and from my Vista computer only 2 files I can access on XP computer but not my shared documents folder...Gordon | Gordon_P (12244) | |
