699834 2008-08-23 22:53:00 I've only really seen this happen with big websites (IMDB, eBay, etc).

I go to the site, the title load up the top. At this stage, I can view the source of the page. After about 90 seconds, the page loads, but it is not styled at all.

Look at this screenshot i35.tinypic.com the HTML takes 1.78s to load, then there is a 1.5 minute wait for no reason.

I see this in Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer. It also happens on the other laptop that uses this connection.

What is going on?

699835 2008-08-23 23:06:00 The plot thickens!

If I do "ping i.media-imdb.com" it resolves to the IP 119.224.143.8. That IP belongs to Callplus/Slingshot.

Yet ping says this:
Pinging a1969.l.akamai.net [119.224.143.8] with 32 bytes of data:

I asked a friend overseas to lookup i.media-imdb.com and they get the IP of 210.155.101.196. If I put that in my hosts file, the site loads fine.

Is this DNS poisoning?

699836 2008-08-23 23:22:00 I have the same problem. I can't access any 'big' sites, such as Apple, eBay, or Facebook. The page loads some shell HTML, but then times out. Getting through to the helpdesk is taking forever as well... cell-gfx (9799)
699837 2008-08-23 23:26:00 Just tried loading in the web page as per your screen shot at 10.47 - went straight in loaded in about 1-2 seconds, tried on both FF and opera, I'm on Telstra cable.

Regarding the Ping - heres what I got back (www.imagef1.net.nz)

Edited: just tried with eBay - same thing 1 second to load. Maybe Slingshot is playing silly buggers at the moment.

The issue is that Slingshot's DNS servers are returning the wrong IP addresses.

Whilst I wait on hold to give Slingshot a talking to, you can put a workaround in place to fix these issues. Use iHug's DNS servers.

The IPs are 203.109.252.42 and 203.109.252.43. If you don't know how to set your DNS addresses, google it.

699839 2008-08-23 23:44:00 Cool, cheers for that. eBay still doesn't seem to work, but Apple does. My left ear has almost become one with my phone... pick up, pick up! cell-gfx (9799)
699840 2008-08-24 00:04:00 I've been on for 35 minutes. rixth (9629)
