700681 2008-08-27 00:06:00 I've just finished loading up a fresh XP PRO on my PC and I've lnstalled SP3.
All was going well until I tried to load adsubtract pro.
It came up with an error BUG when I first tried to run it so I deceided it would be best to uninstall it.
Did this and rebooted however now my sound has completely gone.

Before I load Adsubtract Pro I made a restore point.
So I thought I'd simply reload the original from there. All went well but, you've guessed it - STILL NO SOUND!

I've checked all the places I can think of through windows and everywhere says that the volume is up.
I set the windows sound effects to DEFAULT but when I press the little arrow to play say 'windows closing' - no sound.
I don't get the windows load up music or the close down music.

When I dial up - there's no modem sound any more either.....

Can anyone tell me where I can look to find the switch to turn it back on?

700682 2008-08-27 00:12:00 you probably have HD digital or ac97 sound chip that require the MS UUA HD driver...sp3 didnt ship with it and is known to stop sound once installed....

Wait a mo, go see if I can find it...

Edit---Here ya go! (boredsysadm.blogspot.com)

700683 2008-08-27 00:32:00 Sound seemed to work fine after I'd finished installing SP3 and even went better when I installed the Realtek driver ...

It's only stopped this morning after i tried to install Adsubtract - before that it was going really well.

Maybe the installation/removal changed a setting in the registry that System Restore did not alter?

Any thoughts???

700684 2008-08-27 00:41:00 Oops, sick, didnt read your post correctly....
so you did an uninstall, sound failed, then system restore, sound fail?...

Have you checked Adsutract web-site for known issues or forum?

700685 2008-08-27 01:00:00 Anyway, I've downloaded & installed the file you mention - changing the reg value back & fwd as detailed - still no sound? I'll check to see if adsubtract website can help....

Any other ideas?

700686 2008-08-27 04:19:00 Go to control panel>sounds>Audio Tab and check what is listed as default sound device... SolMiester (139)
700687 2008-08-27 04:22:00 Yup if that modem is a fax/voice modem, its probably the default sound device Speedy Gonzales (78)
