700633 2008-08-26 22:34:00 After formatting and reinstalling XP, a signal is not registering on my monitor.
1. Monitor & cable ok. - Checked with another computer.
2. Graphics card ok - Checked with another graphics card. (I presume this one is ok).
All work done with anti static strap in place.
My thoughts are now directed towards the mainboard graphics card socket, as when started up drive and keybord lights light up.
Any thoughts appreciated.

If I do replace the mainboard, aside from checking the BIOS, is it ok to use the existing operating system hard drive (I hope so), or must I format and reinstall XP again.

Many thanks.

700634 2008-08-26 22:38:00 It'd be better if you reformat, if its a different mobo.

If the mobo isnt the same as the one youre replacing.

Since it may have different hardware in it

You could try a repair, but that may or may not work.

700635 2008-08-27 05:20:00 Does the PC start at all? Do you get the POST screen and windows boot? or do you get nothing?

Or does the problem only happen after windows has loaded?

700636 2008-08-27 05:27:00 Everything worked fine for about 3 days after reinstalling XP.
Now I get nothing. The computer seems to be going as dvd drives and keyboard lights go on as they should on start up. Fans on cpu and in case also ok.

700637 2008-08-27 06:42:00 So it was working fine before you reinstalled windows but now it's stuffed?

Did you change any hardware or do anything other than reinstall windows?

Why did you reinstall windows - was the PC unstable or something?
Agent_24 (57)
700638 2008-08-27 22:57:00 Reinstalled Windows because unstable. After new install all went well for 2 or 3 days (except for detetion of partition on hard drive), then no signal to monitor. Went through process as described in my first post. Only new addition was pci sound card, but was using sound from mobo as never got around to installing drivers for Audigy.
All other bits unchanged.

700639 2008-08-28 09:08:00 Are you talking about this computer (pressf1.co.nz) (or have you updated since then)?
If it is the same one, you could have blown capacitor issues on the motherboard and/or the power supply unit.
Could also be defective ram.
