700229 2008-08-25 09:26:00 I installed XP SP3 a few months ago from Microsoft . com and I've had about 3 - 4 BSOD occurrences since but I fixed those by repairing them by Booting from the Windows disk although Windows Explorer still plays up .

I tried to repair this one but so far there has been no light at the end of the tunnel .

The system file that's causing the BSOD is "tfsnifs . sys" Is there a workaround or do I have to do a complete reinstall?

Thanks

PS: Here are some specs for you in case it might help

Dell inspiron 530s
2 . 33Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
4Gigs RAM
250Gig HDD
22" Monitor
Windows XP Professional

700230 2008-08-25 09:30:00 Looks like tfsnifs.sys belongs to some cd/dvd burning program by Sonic. Uninstall it

Looks like Dell may have a patch for this somewhere tho, but I would still uninstall it

700231 2008-08-25 09:37:00 I should have mentioned before, this happened after I uninstalled "Sonic Record Now" from my system.

How can I remove this file becuase its not in Add/Remove Programs as I already uninstalled before the BSOD.

EDIT: I found tfsnifs.sys in C:\WINDOWS\system32\DLA should I just delete it or is that dangerous?

700232 2008-08-25 09:46:00 Is that the only thing by Sonic thats installed?

Try this, go to device manager, view menu / show hidden devices

Click on non plug and play drivers. Does that file appear here?? If it does, (it may have an X beside it), delete it then reboot

If its not here, search for it (you may have to open my computer, go to tools / folder options / view). Untick hide protected system files first..

If it comes up delete it. I would also check if you have ccleaner, that its not in startup or something that belongs to it, isnt running on / in startup

And if u do have ccleaner, delete all the folders belonging to Sonic record now, and in the documents and settings folder , use ccleaner / registry tab and click on scan issues. Delete everything that comes up

Delete it. it shouldnt hurt anything, then reboot

See if it appears in device manager first

700234 2008-08-25 10:05:00 Thanks heaps Speedy, I think this is the second time you've solved my PC problems :)

But I still get the Windows Explorer problem where it has to close and restart... Is there a fix?
MongooseRoadkill (13197)
700235 2008-08-25 10:09:00 No probs :) Umm, go to start/run type eventvwr.msc

Click on application, look on the right for any X's, go through them until you find one for explorer.exe. Double click on it, click on the icon under the down arrow key. Then paste it here.

700237 2008-08-25 10:58:00 Did you uninstall SP3?? Because that explorer.exe should be 6.0.2900.5512

Have you installed any service packs at all?
Speedy Gonzales (78)
700238 2008-08-26 06:36:00 Yes I my computer came with SP2 installed but when I installed SP3 I got BSOD and once I fixed that I get constant Windows Explorer error messages.

How do I uninstall SP3?
