700053 2008-08-24 23:56:00 Might be a stupid question but what is better?

Norton Ghost or True Image?

I just got a new hard drive today and want to replace my os hard drive, can i use either of those apps to ghost one hard drive directly onto the new hard drive (even though the hard drives are different sizes etc) without any hassle?

Vista Ultimate x64

Any help appreciated

700054 2008-08-25 00:07:00 I would go with True Image myself, it's very reliable and quick in its work.

I've found it very good myself.

I'm not a fan of Norton.anything tho, so I'm probably bias that way anyway! LOL

Norton: Ruining computers since 22BC

Ok sweet so will true image be able to copy everything to the new drive without any hassle? while running on the os?

700056 2008-08-25 01:35:00 Acronis True Image Version 8.0

"Acronis True Image works totally in the Windows environment and can image your system while you continue to work within Windows.

and that was the version 8.xx in 2004 :)

it's up to 11.xx now

Image your drive then write it to your other drive - then boot from that and all should be good

The drive makers have downloadable software for that. Seagate provide a version of Acronis True Image. You shouldn't have to buy anything.

700060 2008-08-25 01:59:00 Vista Ultimate x64 being vista, you may find that when you first boot the imaged drive it wont boot - I have found this with several imaging software, Norton, True Image etc.

To fix it you simply boot from the Vista DVD, tell it to repair the start up and away it goes - Personally I use Acronis True Image - Had Norton fail way to many times.

It was OK when it was Norton Ghost bootable from a Floppy or CD, but the more recent versions are :yuck:

i must be dumb deaf blind and limbless i can't find it :S NOPE! right place - its called Disk Wizard, you install it then you can make a bootable media as well, Disk Wizard Download (www.seagate.com ) the instruction manual is further down the page on the right ( PDF)

700062 2008-08-25 02:14:00 Another vote for true image 11 although I made a bootable CD from it and used it to clone my step sons hard drive as running it from within windows was slower and had an error that would not go away but run from the live CD it gave no errors and he has running the new drive for 2 months now gary67 (56)
