| 460156 | 2006-06-03 03:49:00 | Just rung Telecom for a third party whose home phone is out, apparent problem with the main jackpoint. No techies can come before 10th June, at the earliest. I suppose they're all out trying to fix the broadband. However, they will transfer all calls, free, to the subscribers cell phone. Too bad about the internet banking, business data etc etc etc. There used to be an old jokethat said, "you can't complain about the service, there isn't any." |

| 460157 | 2006-06-03 08:29:00 | Some Telecom workers were doing some work near my parents' house, and accidently cut through a cable, disconnecting their phone line. They didn't come back for a week to fix it. They are pretty damn slack. | roddy_boy (4115) | ||

| 460162 | 2006-06-03 10:13:00 | Yeah Telecom used to have their own servicepersons (politically correct speak). They were hived off into a seperate company called Connectel, which then became one of the original 4 service companys, when all the patches were put out for competitive tender. Only two remain now due to another tendering round, Downer Connect ( as Connectel was sold off & is now part of the Downer EDI group ) and Transfeild who bought Areva who were Alstom etc. CableTalk, one of the orginal four successful tenderers, now has contracts for TelstraClear and GDC another previous service company bit the dust a few weeks back with the liquidators moving in. As for the staff, well we do what we can, I've worked with a lot of the same guys for years now, some have moved on and then come back, others pop up in different companies from time to time. The staff numbers haven't kept pace with the expanded population and increasing number of lines installed. Nor in some cases could we say of the ageing network. The same with the workforce, there hasn't been a large number of apprentices/ trainees go thru for years as such the average age of the staff now is getting on. Also only so much can be done in a day or a week even, sometimes they forget we like to have lives as well and most if not all have families etc. |

| 460163 | 2006-06-03 10:34:00 | I live in Tauranga Westy............... The switchboard (person) did ask where I was so the 7 day delay may not apply to all customers. I take your point re the workers, that's why I controlled my conversation with the poor person (p.c. again) on the board - not her fault. I'll bet she gets a hard time....? Just another example of what happens you you can run a virtual monopoly.... |
