| 459943 | 2006-06-02 04:38:00 | The other week I was out on a walk around where I live & All over the place including Papakura There are these Green Boxes Photo 1 Small Green Box (stuartw.orcon.net.nz) Photo 2 Big Green Box (stuartw.orcon.net.nz) Photo 3 Top of a Big Green Box ( stuartw.orcon.net.nz) I know a few years ago Telecom or some other company was putting in these boxes / cable all over where I live. I cant remember what it was for; I think it was for some sort of cable TV / internet that never took off Does any one know what this was for? Also if these boxes could have provided internet how fast could it go?? & why cant Telecom or another company take over these green things & start offering better internet in the area these green things are in?? |

The are used for cable-tv systems and also for hubs that contain splitters and amplifiers for that system . The first one is a "mini-ped", and usually held private or very local telephone and tv signal cables . The other is a "full-ped" for larger systems and many connections . This one usually has a full-er lower level for large diameter conduit to rise into it, sometimes from many directions, and a few sources . This has a formed "basement" that can be sealed, but usually is just open to the bottom for cable ingress/egress . They are made of high-density polyethylene plastic, quite uv resistant and of course, water and vermin proof . They are currently still in use, and still are also being installed in neighborhoods (mostly new developments) here in SoCal, and I imagine now all over the world . |

| 459947 | 2006-06-23 15:53:00 | ** bump ** HUH? Why the bump? I thought it was well established that these are/were cable boxes that are usually chock full of wires and other super science thingy's and had purpose and value as they sit . . . unless they are empty, that is . Maybe even empty they might be a site for some poor ecologically threatened and going to obscurity nine-toed rhododendron-eating varmant with one blue eye that some tree hugger wants to preserve even though the one they found is male, has been castrated and is non-hetero anyway . :stare: Then again, they might be teletransport pods for the next alien invasion . . . . . . |
