2008-08-26 03:57:00 | Thanks for that Speedy. I have downloaded poledit and saved to a floppy. One other question, please: I wish to disable the boot password. I am told that I may use the jumpers or disconnect the battery. Which is the better to use? What jumpers do I use? If I disconnect the battery, will there be any settings that I have to restore? Thanks.:thanks

2008-08-26 04:02:00 | Go into the BIOS (if its a BIOS password) and disable it in the BIOS options If you know what the password is Then save the settings then reboot I have no idea what jumper, as I dont know what the mobo / system is. The jumper would be called different things , and be in different places, on different systems If you remove the battery, you'll have to go back into the BIOS and reconfigure the settings in the BIOS. Then save the settings then reboot

2008-08-26 04:15:00 | I will obtain the password then disable, thanks. Does not sound much fun having to reconfigure - I don't have the inclination to do that! Although I suppose all I need do is note down the present settings? That is to be my job tomorrow. If you hear any loud screaming from the One Tree Hill area, pay no attention.:D

2008-08-26 23:22:00 | There are two networked PCs that I need to change. One is easy and I have been able to go into the bios and disable the password. The other, slightly more up to date, will not allow me to do so. Unlike the older machine, it goes directly to 98 after I have entered the bios password. I have tried DEL, F8, F12 but it seems that there is something else that I need to do. Any ideas, please?

2008-08-27 00:17:00 | So, what do you want to do with the networked PCs? You'll have to remove the jumper if you dont know what the BIOS PW is

2008-08-27 01:06:00 | I said they were networked as a point of interest. I can access the bios in one but not the other. When it boots, it asks for the boot password and then goes almost immediately to 98. I need to be able to access the bios so I can disable the boot password. Do I press delete, or F8 or what? Any ideas? Thanks.

2008-08-27 01:16:00 | I dont know, different systems have different keys to get into the BIOS Try F1/F2/F10 or Del And dont get snotty, or else you can figure it out yourself!

2008-08-27 01:58:00 | I dont know, different systems have different keys to get into the BIOS Try F1/F2/F10 or Del And dont get snotty, or else you can figure it out yourself! So, just keep trying, sounds the idea. Not too certain what you mean by that last remark. I was just answering your question, I thought. I said that it was one of two computers that were networked simply to give you a more complete picture. I don't have the same knowledge as you (although I am learning, thanks to you lot) and so was not aware of the relevance or not of that fact. But what do I want to do? Both have had a boot up password that I want to disable. I can disable one but not the other - as above. That's because I can't get into the bios of one. Your help is appreciated, as I have said before. Yes, I suppose that I could figure it out myself, but I was hoping to do it this year which is why I came to the experts for help.:thanks

2008-08-27 02:04:00 | So, did you get into the BIOS? It depends on what the system is, some Dell/HP systems it maybe F2 / F10. I dont know, I've never had a Dell or HP. Most of the PC's I've built you press Del. If theyre networked, it doesnt mean all are password protected (for Windows or the BIOS). Unless, someone has put a password in All its doing, is letting you network (so you can share folders, and the net) If you dont know the password (or if you do, but its not working), the only thing you can do is, remove whatever jumper, leave it off for a min then replace. Only thing is, you'll have to reconfigure the BIOS after

2008-08-27 02:27:00 | I have the password - that's the easy part. But I still can't get into the bios. It is at another address, so I will try again later. I was hoping not to have to do the jumper and reconfigure, but it seems that might be what I'll have to do if I can't get into the bios. Bloody nuisance! I'll let you know how I get on.
