For best results handfuls of tea have to be thrown in when the billy is at full boil, from a distance of 1 to 2 feet, but never less than 1 foot. If the billy is never washed out, then in the dire eventuality of running out of leaf tea, a further brew can be made from the residues adhering to the sides of the billy. If the water is boiled over a fire of manuka, or leatherwood, then a certain piquance of flavour is added to the brew.
