700441 2008-08-26 06:00:00 hi all,
i was three weeks without internet and landline as Telecom repaired some major cable in our street. now phone is back, but ADSL is not. Telecom absolutely guarantees me that the line is fine. i have an Alcatel speedtouch Pro and Belkin witreless modem, the wireless network with other PC's at home works a treat, just the Internet is gone. The Power light on the modem is OK, the LAN light is on, the Tx light blinks from time to time, the Rx light does not do anything. The technician thinks I have to do the whole setup of the modem again, but can not really help me as I am a Paradise customer.
Does this make sense: redoing the setup of the modem ?

Cheers and thanks for your help!!

700442 2008-08-26 06:07:00 You have to go into the router's config (if ts a router), and add your login details and you may have to change a few things.

The paradise site should have the settings you need

Then save / reboot the router. I take it the modem was already configured and working before tho?

700443 2008-08-26 06:33:00 The Rx light I presume is your ADSL light. If it is not on it is not picking up the ADSL on your line and it won't matter if the modem is configured correctly or not, it should still pick up the ADSL signal if it is available.

I suggest you call Paradise and report no modem sync and they will get Telecom to investigate.

700444 2008-08-26 06:36:00 Seeing the telephone cable is with Telecom and your ADSL is with paradise, that may be a problem as to whos prepared to take any fault.

Look at the ADSL light on the Modem, with the phone line plugged in, it should either be searching for the connection (flashing) or be on solid. - even without any settings, the light simply is indicating the ADSL is there.

IF there is no light - then it could be like a customer I saw last week who just had some work done on the local lines in their area - the ADSL stopped working, but was working fine before that - we rang Telecom and they said the line repairs they had done had caused the ADSL to stop , and the Modem/router was now not compatible - they sent out a new one free of charge , I plugged it in and instantly going again.

If they have changed something - your Modem/router may need to be replaced with a more upto date one.

700445 2008-08-26 07:42:00 wainuitech - do you know the make and model of the modem that Telecom said was not compatible.

There have been rumours around for a while that some modems might not work after ADSL2 exchange upgrades but as far a I know they have not been able to confirm a problem with any particular modem so I would be interested to know what it was.

700446 2008-08-26 07:51:00 Wasnt it a modem that used the broadcom chip??

Xnet used to have a network status message, about some Telecom modem that used the above that had a prob

700447 2008-08-26 08:19:00 Interesting!!
Went into the router setup and its all fine.
Seems that the modem/router can not find an ADSL signal.
Telecom takes the blame and are willinmg to doeverything what causes it. They have dug around the houseand re-repaired the littlegrey box to no avail. The landline isworking fine though. Our neigbours,we share some poles with also have a phone connection, but their broadband is off as well,so unlikely to be my modem at fault.
Willcontinue waiting, nowusing an expensive GPRS connection.

Cheers

They still work, but the line speed jams on 7547kb/s .

To get true ADSL2+ speed, you have to get your ISP to change your port setting to non-interleaved .

So if I ask them (ISP) to do this (non-interleaving) with mine as well, will my speed increase as well? With Xtra, by the way.

Interleaving has nothing to do with ADSL2 speeds
Whether you get ADSL2 speeds depends on if this is active on your exchange.

Having Interleaving off makes a connection less reliable but has the advantage of lower latency for gamers.
