700358 2008-08-25 23:25:00 Hi, I have just bought a Kingston 4Gb compact flash card and my pc reports it size as 1.88Gb. Now I know windows reports drive sizes smaller than they actually are but I have lost over 2Gb. This card is actually the second as the first card also reported as 1.88Gb so I sent it back. Whats going on? Is 1.88Gb the correct size? Going to Europe for 5 weeks on Thursday so I need to get this sorted.
Cheers

700359 2008-08-25 23:30:00 Some card readers can only read so much, of a memory card (Not all of them can read 4GB+ cards)

So it could be the card reader thats the prob or XP (if youre using XP) may need an update

Whats the model/brand of this card reader?? If you've got one

700360 2008-08-25 23:34:00 Model of card reader in pc is unknown, but my camera, a canon A70, also reports the size as 1.8Gb. I am using vista ultimate. 78SS (13963)
700361 2008-08-25 23:59:00 Is that formated in FAT?, if so there is the reaso for the 2Gb limit....I would use computer manager and disk management to erase the partition and reformat using FAT32 to give you the full 4Gb SolMiester (139)
700362 2008-08-26 00:14:00 I have reformatted the card with FAT32 in disk management and the card size is still reported as 1.88Gb in camera and card reader. 78SS (13963)
700363 2008-08-26 00:43:00 Did you delete any partitions 1st?...no good reformatting if the partition is still 1.88Gb SolMiester (139)
700364 2008-08-26 00:46:00 No, it was empty. Just reformatted with FAT32. 78SS (13963)
700365 2008-08-26 00:50:00 Is that a Powershot A70? That model was released over 5 years ago and may not be able to fully utilise large capacity cards. seltsam (13470)
700366 2008-08-26 01:00:00 But it should show up in Vista with the correct size.
I think I will take it to a camera shop and see it works OK for them.

700367 2008-08-26 01:04:00 No, it was empty. Just reformatted with FAT32.

???- Empty?....I dont think you removed the partition, empty or not....use windows disk manager, right click on the drive, does it have the option to delete partition....on the properties option, what size does it show, does it show unused space?
