2008-08-25 05:11:00 | I have an Acer Aspire Windows XP Home Edition and when I start it up, it comes to a menu says something like "There was a problem with Windows starting up" and it says to select one of the following 1)Safe Mode 2)Safe Mode with Networking 3)Safe Mode With Command Prompt 4)Last Known Good Configuration 5)Start Windows Normally All 3 Safe Modes show a list of file names (Here is an example of one) multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)/WINDOWS/System32/Drivers/NDIS.sys or multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)/WINDOWS/System32/Drivers/mup.sys If I try Last Good Config or Start Normally, It shows the loading bar that sort of looks like this [ --- ] and then there is a click and the monitor shows no signal and restarts, showing the same screen again. I have given all the info I can think of. BTW The PC came with XP installed, not upgraded or downgraded. If possible, I would like to keep the files that are on the computer Please help

Select 'Disable automatic restart on system failure'. Let it boot, and see if a BSOD (blue screen of death) comes up. We'll see what's happening from there. BTW showing file names in Safe Mode is normal - it's booting without the fancy boot screen. :) |

2008-08-25 05:24:00 | It's a blue screen with a lot of techy error details on it. ;) It was named 'death' because it meant you lost all unsaved work (you have to restart). EDIT: Snap!

2008-08-25 05:26:00 | Tell us what the stop error says, and the name of the file (under it, if its says the name of a file or driver) Or what it says on the screen

2008-08-25 05:29:00 | What do you mean by all "Unsaved Work"? ie: If you were doing a document in word, when it crashed, whatever is gone. You'll have to do it again
