| 1428089 | 2016-11-01 04:38:00 | So, any winners amongst us today chaps? I don't know what it is about two countries that every year come to a complete halt when it's Melbourne Cup day. I used to always have a bet, and one time I won $30 on a complete outsider! Just a bit of fun now, to watch the race and all the hype and spectacle, the beautiful horses and all the fancy people in their equally fancy clothes! LL |

LL Well I got the Trifecta on an Aus account. :) I boxed 4 and was going to take a First 4 but chickened out figuring picking the first 3 was hard enough. I was greatly relieved when my fourth pick didn't run 4th because the first 4 paid $23k in Aus. |

| 1428093 | 2016-11-01 07:58:00 | SWMBO made $2.18 in prize money. Unfortunately it cost her around $12 invested to win that much. Still TV on, a glass of wine and some nibbles was quite a nice thing. Ken :) |

| 1428095 | 2016-11-01 22:26:00 | Melbourne Cup is a fun event with tens of thousands having a sweepstake and a once a year bet. Upsets occur. Decades ago in my first year as a Bank Clerk we had a sweepstake and I drew Light Fingers. Everyone laughed at my draw since it was a bank. It was 6th in the hone straight and the 5 front runners fell over each other so it won. To me this is a classic example of why it is fun to have the "annual" bet. When I abandon my instinctive choice and try to go on form (I'm not a race follower) I generally regret it. Nice to have one tradition that lasts. Neil f |
