Really? 4.9?

Yes, we in Auckland kept sleeping. We will be woken by all the volcanos going off one day...:-)

1428702 2016-11-13 19:24:00 It woke both of us up in Taupo. And woke up memories of going through the Canterbury earthquakes before moving here. John H (8)
1428703 2016-11-13 20:22:00 As an Aucklander I slept through the whole thing...

Same here. First this I heard about it was the M-in-law rings up about 12.45 am and says " Have you been listening to the radio?" Like we'd be doing that at 12.45 am..

1428704 2016-11-13 20:58:00 The only thing that would stir Aucklanders would be news that latte prices had gone up. 😅

1428706 2016-11-13 22:26:00 Felt it at Home in Hamilton, doors were swinging, house was creaking, power went off for about 40 minutes, I was in a recliner and the chair was swaying from side to side. It seemed like my whole house was swaying, not unlike being on a large ship in a moderate swell
Beautiful clear moonlit night though, wouldn't have seen it otherwise. All I could hear were alarms and dogs in the distance.

I feel bad for those that live closer and the 2 confirmed deaths but at least it's not like the Christchurch disaster. I guess it's something we should all be prepared for living as we do at the meeting of two tectonic plates, nowhere in NZ is safe from a potential Quake really.

Then there's the volcanoes. Taupo is humbling if you think about it, standing at the shore seeing the size of it, then realising you are looking at a small bay, then trying to wrap your head around that being a volcanic crater. Last time it erupted was recorded in China.
We do live in an interesting place.

1428707 2016-11-13 23:50:00 Was interesting here in Napier - as mentioned it went on for quite a long time. G/f's son lost a bottle of liqueur and two bottles of vinegar which smashed on the floor in Wellington. Most interesting thing though was her pool kept sloshing for quite a while, and this morning we noticed about 15 cm's of water had been lost over the sides. Fun fun fun! Greg (193)
