1430050 2016-12-21 08:59:00 Im 100% certain Ive got a virus or mal/adware of some sort but cant find any solution through google searches that dont require cash.

So.... Ive got an old Acer Aspire 3002LC running Window XP home edition.

Ive disabled IE. and Using Chrome mainly and occasionally Firefox.

Built in Windows Firewall is on.

When I log on to the net, Ive started getting a russian search engine even when I ask for GOOGLE.

Any site I do manage to get on, when I click a link (facebook, Ebaumsworld, The Chive etc) to do ANYTHING it takes me to a weird dating site that looks like it was done on a Commodore 64.

I realize XP is no longer supported and cant download fixes, But I was hoping SOME Genius out there could help.

Id prefer to use Ubuntu but the disk ive got wont load.

Are there any Freeware fixes????

Thanks for any help. Happy Xmas & New Years!!:banana

1430051 2016-12-21 09:06:00 Chrome is one big virus lol. See if adwcleaner works in XP. I dont know if it does (toolslib.net)

Disable system restore then run it. Click on scan wait for it to finish. If it picks anything up tell it to remove it then reboot

Then run it again select file/uninstall

I wouldnt post links to suss sites on here

1430054 2016-12-21 23:27:00 If you were considering changing to Linux, now could be the time.
Download the appropriate version on another system.
Write it to a CD or DVD.
Boot your system from it.
You can either run it from the disc, which will be very slow or install it alongside windows.
You could then save any files you want from windows to Linux.

1430055 2016-12-22 00:08:00 Download it with another computer, put it onto a flash drive, transfer it to your faulty unit, run faulty unit in safe mode if possible and run Adwcleaner.

If you have a printer problem, best to start start a new thread, unless you are phishing.
