701173 2008-08-29 03:00:00 Hi all,

I have AMD Athlon 1 . 6Ghz, 700ish RAM, 1 x cd rom, 1 x dvd writer, 1 x 120GB (IDE hdd) and 1 x new 500GB WD (SATA hdd) .

. nzoczone . com/product_info . php?products_id=7268" target="_blank">www . nzoczone . com

I have used a SATA to IDE convertor adaptor to connect the 500gb to my old motherboard .

1 . In the BIOS the new HDD only shows the size as 137GB? Not sure why!
But while the windows setup starts up, where you can see the hdd and choose where to install it, windows displays the 500GB HDD .

So im not sure if my motherboard is compatible with the new HDD or not?

Anyway, i tried to go ahead and install the windows XP on my new HDD, but i keep getting errors after windows is trying to copy files to my comptuer like "Error while trying to copy the 'bla bla files' . I tried to skip some files but their were more files came with that error .

FYI: Its not the problem of my windows XP cd, a have used it lots of times to install before and the cd has no scratches .

I also had an image of hdd using Acronis program and i tried to copy it to the new hdd, but in the process, the copying freezes after 15min . I have tried few times .

I have to install XP from the CDROM and also from DVD writer, but came up with same errors, that some files cannot be copied .

Could you someone please advise, what could be the problem?
What are my options i can try to make it work?

Thanks heaps .

701174 2008-08-29 03:16:00 The BIOS may need an update to see more than 137 GB

Whats the brand/model of the motherboard / system?

Does the BIOS have an LBA option?

Since that's a SATA 2 hdd, there should be a switch on it to switch to SATA 1. (SATA 150)

Unless that adapter supports SATA 2, you wont get SATA 2 speed. And that maybe why its bringing up that error

701175 2008-08-29 03:18:00 Old BIOS....hmmm, you may have to set the HDD properties as LBA instead of AUTO.

Is this a clean install?

Can you please give the motherboard model and number so we can check!

I have set the HDD to SATA1 limited to 150mb/s.

701178 2008-08-29 04:12:00 The thing i dont understand is how the windows setup keep giving errors that it cannot copy some files? Even though it worked fine lots of times previously. Groovvy (7668)
