| 701012 | 2008-08-28 03:42:00 | Hi, I want to reinstall XP pro onto my machine that currently has XP pro SP3 on it. The XP CD I am using is the original professional one without any service packs on it. I changed my bios to boot from cd but a problem occurs when trying to boot from the xp cd. An error message occurs very briefly, something like ATAPI boot failure and then it proceeds to boot from the HDD. I thought the cd might be scratched or something but it runs fine when in windows. I also tried a win98 SE cd that I had and that DID work when I tried to bood from cd. Does anyone know what the problem might be? The computer is pretty old running a AMD athlon ~700 MHz and the BIOS is Award or something the mobo is a 1st mainboard brand. Thanks. |
