700907 2008-08-27 10:26:00 Anyone got a magic fix for a mouse that is not always detected on startup.
Mouse is a Logitech corded, wheel, optical, USB. Have tried updating drivers from Logitech, plugging into another port but it's still giving me problems.
About every third time I boot up it will not respond, I have to unplug it from back of computer, push it back in & we are away again. Keyboard is also USB & I don't have any trouble with that so makes me think it's not a USB fault. Running XP home.

700908 2008-08-27 10:37:00 Did you try different port?
If is the port, maybe you should consider a new m/b
Are there any error messages?

700909 2008-08-27 10:44:00 Thanks for reply Georgeks, but as I said I have already tried another port & the M/B is new, come to think of it this problem has only started since the new board was fitted, Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS5. jebby (4580)
700910 2008-08-27 11:25:00 Go into the BIOS on startup, press the delete key as it boots, look through the settings, Cant remember off hand, but I think its under advanced ( it will be in one of the menus in the left hand side of the BIOS settings)- look for and make sure USB mouse support is enabled. From memory by default its disabled, but keyboard is enabled. wainuitech (129)
700911 2008-08-27 11:55:00 Thanks for that WT, I have enabled in bios & will let you know in a couple of days. jebby (4580)
700912 2008-08-27 20:33:00 I bought a logitech mouse from QMB years ago, it died in about a week and so did the replacement.

I got an A4-tech 5-button optical mouse from DSE which has been working perfect since (even after a replacement cable when it was shut in a car door and driven over!)

I reckon in your case though, check the BIOS settings, check for a BIOS update also.

700913 2008-08-28 02:26:00 Hi. I presume that you are operating your USB mouse into a USB port (as opposed to using a USB-Serial converter plug). Some USB mice (?) won't work in serial ports, notwithstanding the converter is being used. Cheers. A Team (13613)
700914 2008-08-28 03:29:00 Thanks for the help all, WT's suggestion is working so far. (fingers crossed):nerd: jebby (4580)
700915 2008-08-28 09:41:00 Nope !! just booted up & no mouse again, unpluged it, pushed back in & away again, anymore suggestions please. jebby (4580)
700916 2008-08-28 10:00:00 Restart and check the BIOS setting, if its still set to detect then it could be a fault as per Agents Suggestion Earlier. wainuitech (129)
