700776 2008-08-27 04:35:00 Hi, I have a lot of video files that I want to crop. I was wondering if there was any freeware that I could use to cut of un-needed video. The easier/simpler the better. Thanks. Craig Mellor (13762)
700777 2008-08-27 04:46:00 When you say crop, do you mean remove part of the frame (i.e. removing black borders), or do you mean trimming bits off the start and end of the video clip?

What format are the video files in (.avi, .wmv, .mov)?

700778 2008-08-27 04:51:00 Crop as in removing part of the video. Like taking time of the video. Most of the videos are either in avi or wmv. Craig Mellor (13762)
700779 2008-08-27 04:54:00 Virtualdub, or virtualdubmod if you want to play with wmv. Metla (12)

If you're running Windows XP or newer, you can use Windows Movie Maker to do it - it's fairly straightforward to use, and comes preinstalled (I think).

700781 2008-08-27 05:10:00 I have Windows Movie Maker so I might try that and if it doesn't do everything I want I might try one of the other suggested programs, Thanks. Craig Mellor (13762)
700782 2008-08-27 05:30:00 Regarding virtualdub, You simply set a start and finish point, select export and it spits out the file, You can set multiple start and finish point on each file and get it to do them all when you have finished, or you can even set it up to do its bizzo on multiple files, bank em up, select go when you want to and it spits them all out, Very simple to use, and can do direct stream processing if you so wish.

Windows Movie Maker can do many things, and given enough effort can spit out perfectly fine video, But its still a horrible piece of software, With all there billions of dollars MS should be ashamed, deeply ashamed.

700783 2008-08-28 06:34:00 I used Windows Movie Maker last night and WOW. It took over 3 hours to save a 650mb avi file. It was useful though, I added a title and removed most of the credits, but 3 hours, now that is slow. But it didn't help that my CPU was running at 100% the whole time. Overall it is a decent program. Might try another if it annoys me too much. Thanks for all the help guys... Craig Mellor (13762)

I've found that if you get it to save to a .wmv file rather than .avi, it's much quicker (I'm not sure why).
