| 462240 | 2006-06-11 03:21:00 | Can anybody recommend a cordless phone that has heaps of volume that cant be accidentally adjusted? The position is this. I have an 85yo mother-in-law who lives on her own and is hard of hearing and failing in many respects. Unfortunately, there must be a number she dials that has a digit close to the decrease volume key and she winds up not being able to hear anything. This in turn necessitates my daughter going around and adjusting things again. So, what Im looking for is a suitable cordless phone that you can either lock the volume on or one that has good volume that isnt adjustable. Do they make phones for the hard of hearing? Yes, she has a hearing aid but we wont go there because youd all be asleep by the time I explained those problems. Ive asked around various shops but they all look at me as though Im mad. Of course they may be right. ;) Anyone solved a similar problem? |

I went in DSE one day after I had gone through 4 different phones already. It had to be not too small, not an overly complicated menu system, not pick up the damn radio, be loud - this both with its ring and volume. I dithered with an amazingly patient sales guy for ages - we couldn't test the radio in the shop of course, and I remember seeing a particular model which was useful for the hard of hearing. I didn't get that one so I can't remember its exact model and brand. The one I did get he said in the end, I could just keep bringing them back within 7 days until I found one that was right. I did warn him I might be doing that until I'd been through every one they had.... Turned out the one I got was fine except for a slighly low ring volume. Solved the ring noise by buying an old antique type phone with a real bell and having them both plugged in. |

Go to your local Hearing association, they have the latest phones you can try out and buy off them, that are speciafically made to be used for people like this. and welcome all people to come and try them before they buy. they usually have quite a good range. My audiologist told me this when i got my new aids. Other wise the uniden brand has this speaker sound adjustment, as i have one, and paid around the $100 mark, its good for me either my aids in or not. I have a uniden xs 1215?, and its works brilliantly. even my mum who is hearing impaired finds it easy to use. :illogical beetle |

| 462247 | 2006-06-12 06:15:00 | Thanks all, very helpful. Ive actually been into Dick Smiths, but, come to think of it, the guy that served me did look like a product of Tomorrows Schools. (Z pass in 10 subjects including basket weaving) Ill go back seeking intelligent life, although that could be a bigger mission than the mother-in-law. |
