| 460932 | 2006-06-07 00:33:00 | I stopped wearing a watch when I started my mechanic apprenticeship. Got scared when I heard story of guy with metal strap watch 'shorting' out and burnt his wrist. Speaking from experience, I can confirm that car battery + watch strap makes for a very painful experience. I used to drive a 1960 Ford Thames Van (Ford Prefect) and one winter's day while driving to work I shoved my hand under the dash to get a rag to wipe the inside of the windscreen (no demisters or even paper towels in those days). My watch strap made contact between the ignition switch and the metal dash and immediately heated up to sizzle-skin temperature. It welded itself to both contact points as well and took me more than a few seconds to break it free then get it off my wrist, all while driving in traffic I might add. I still have the scars. I also have to carry around a support phone everywhere, so if I leave my pc, I have a mobile with me. Therefor, my watch now sits at home. I think watches are being used less and less now. |

| 460935 | 2006-06-07 05:52:00 | Well mine is a Rolex Oyster, bought it 45 years ago and it still keeps good time, nobody that I am aware of has ever noticed. Which is a pity,it would have been nice to feel a bit superior. :D When I want to get the time off my Rolex Oyster, I just run it from a dos window: www.imagef1.net.nz :) |

A colleague has a "real" Rolex exactly the same model as one, it's actually hard to tell them apart. He was not amused ... They are still going well (authentic looking and working self-winding mechanical mechanisms, giving the "smooth" second hand sweep of the real thing) after 4 years. My wife has a gold 1930's Rolex, handed down from her Grandmother, it also goes well. But I use a Seiko Chronograph Date/Alarm (all analogue) everyday. |

Unfortunately I heard the rooster crow one morning after heavy dosages of alcohol and promptly threw it out the window. Pity I was on the 15th level in a hotel.... What a cool watch. :waughh: |
