462389 2006-06-13 12:13:00 Hey, we caught our first blonde!!

It is a simple play on words Sam, a twist on an old biblical saying.

Repaint = Repent

Thin = Sin

It was a joke..........

Sigh.......

Youse guys still get to use turpentine? It is outlawed here in most of the US......

Almost all our paints are water-based here..we are trying to save the good air for people south of the equator.

Most paints used here now are water-based too, but enamel-based (oil-based) paints are still available, but less popular. There is now a new product called "Aquanamel" by Dulux which is a water-based enamel paint for hard-wearing use.

Yep, "turps" as it is commonly known can be purchased almost anywhere . Apart from thinning paint, it is a great cleaning solvent . Had a stain on my white nylon shirt and it dissoved that stain right away .

Of course it dissolved the shirt too . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :o

462393 2006-06-14 03:30:00 Turpentine is great for thinning down the good old lead based primers and topcoats as well.... godfather (25)
462394 2006-06-14 03:51:00 Youse guys still get to use turpentine? It is outlawed here in most of the US . . . . . . Huh? Turps is about the most innocuous 'potentialy harmful' substance you can buy! :stare:

I guess that's why NZ produces great # 8 wire heroes like Burt Munro .

462395 2006-06-14 04:23:00 Of course, there's turpentine and turpentine. What we usually get is "mineral turps". Real turpentine (26.1911encyclopedia.org/T/TU/TURPENTINE.htm) doesn't seem too nasty according to these safety notes (www.physchem.ox.ac.uk/MSDS/TU/turpentine.html). But it seems to be a good treatment for tapeworms.

Mineral turps is a petroleum product. It's probably illegal in parts of the US because it can be inhaled, and that might be dangerous. (Unlike guns. ;) )
